Pirates are as old as the sea lanes and as contemporary as a Disney hit. Edward Rowe Snow was born to write about them.
The latest title in the uniform Snow Centennial Editions features "the buccaneers and pirates who infested the shores, bays, and islands of the Atlantic Coast of America. This is no collection of Old Wives' Tales," Snow wrote in his preface to the first edition. "These are stories of stark realism. Except for the extreme profanity, blasphemy, and obscenity in which most pirates were adept, everything has been included which is essential for the reader to get a true and fair picture of the life of a sea-rover." Thirty dastardly deed-doers include:
* Captain Quelch, Who Brought Gold to New England
* Captain Phillips, Whose Head Was Pickled
* Captain Francis Spriggs, Active off Florida s Coast
* Charles Gibbs, Who Was Hanged at New York
* The Husband and Wife Pirates of Nova Scotia
Captains Bellamy, Low, Kidd, and Teach (alias Blackbeard) are on board, as well.
